Winter Break Program for Kids
The Ward Melville Heritage Organization will host “Hibernations Creations,” a 3-day Winter Break Puppet-Making Workshop for kids 6 through 9 at their Educational & Cultural Center in Stony Brook Village February 19, 20 and 21, 2019.
Liz Joyce, the accomplished puppeteer of “Goat on a Boat” fame, will take children on an art and science adventure exploring winter themes of animal migration and hibernation. Participants will also choose an animal for their very own puppet creation and then be part of a puppet show for their parents on the final day!
Liz writes, directs and performs a growing repertoire of works for audiences aged 10 months to 10 years. Goat on a Boat is a not-for-profit organization and one of only 50 puppet theaters in the country. Subjects include traditional fairy tales, educational shows and original creations.
Liz honed her carving skills working with traditional puppet carvers in Prague, Czech Republic, and often collaborates with other puppeteers in the international puppet community. Liz’s puppet operetta, Sing a Song of Sixpence was awarded an UNIMA Citation, the highest award in American puppetry. She has performed at numerous venues including Madison Square Park Kids, Theatre for the New City, Los Kabayitos Puppet Theatre, the Children’s Museum of Manhattan, the Brooklyn Children’s Museum, the Children’s Museum of Long Island, The Southampton Cultural Center, New York Department of Parks and Recreation and many of New York City’s Public Schools and Libraries, to name just a few.
The workshops take place from 10 am to 11:30 am each of the days and the cost is $100 per person for all three days. There is a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 15 participants and reservations are required. Call 631-751-2244 or visit stonybrookvillage.com.
